🎼 How to Play (and Learn) with WonderLang

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Adventure

WonderLang is designed for all kinds of learners: from absolute beginners to those already at A2 level. How you play depends on where you're starting from. Here’s how to make the most of it:

đŸŒ± Very Beginner

You know little or nothing about your target language.
The Very Beginner Mode adds extra support:

  • Mandatory tutorial quests in Chapter 1
  • Frequent review checkpoints built into the story
  • Dialogue recaps and optional extra reviews

If you're learning through other methods too (classes, books, apps):
Play WonderLang casually, a few hours per week. The game will reinforce and expand what you’re learning elsewhere, making it more fun and memorable.

If WonderLang is your only learning method:
Brace yourself, it will be tough, but it’s absolutely doable. Here are our tips:

  • Aim to play 30 minutes a day
  • Take notes as you play: copy sentences, write down vocab, highlight grammar rules
  • Play at your own pace and do all optional reviews
  • Don’t be afraid to look things up (Google, ChatGPT, dictionaries). Cheating is ok, it is still learning!
  • Replay chapters using save slots to reinforce what you’ve learned
  • Download our free PDF printables with vocabulary flashcards, full dialogues, and extra exercises

Consistency matters more than speed. You’re building a foundation, one quest at a time.

📘 A1 Level

You’re currently studying toward A1 level, or just reached it.
The A1 Mode adjusts the pacing:

  • Skips the most review-heavy early segments
  • Makes Chapter 1 side quests optional

You can play a few hours per week to strengthen your skills. You’ll still encounter new words regularly, and later chapters will challenge your grammar and conjugation.

Use these combat options to tune the difficulty:

  • Combat Length Multiplier – Choose short or extended reviews by adjusting enemy HP
  • Random Encounter Toggle – Reduce or disable random battles for a more story-focused experience

You can change these settings anytime, so you can ease in or increase the challenge as you go.

📗 A2 Level

You’re currently studying toward A2 level or just completed it.
The A2 Mode skips most beginner-friendly segments:

  • Skips more review-heavy early segments
  • Makes all early side quests optional (Chapters 1 & 2)

You can play casually to reinforce what you already know. You’ll still pick up some new expressions, but most of the learning will come from applying existing knowledge in new contexts.

Combat settings can help you tailor your session:

  • Combat Length Multiplier – Shorten or stretch reviews as needed
  • Random Encounter Toggle – Focus on quests and dialogue by disabling random fights

↩ Back To Learning

WonderLang is also a great way to reignite your interest in a language you studied before. Maybe you took classes years ago or used an app but haven’t practiced in a while: this is your chance to jump back in without pressure. The mix of story, gameplay, and built-in support helps you rebuild confidence quickly. You’ll be surprised how much comes back as you play. It’s a fun and low-stress way to reconnect with the language at your own pace.

No matter your level, WonderLang gives you the tools to make learning feel like a true adventure. Use the review sessions, optional quests, mini-games, and built-in study tools to learn the way that works best for you.
